Situated in West Rural St. Andrew, roughly 11 miles from Constant Spring, Oberlin High School, then Christian College began on January 7, 1946, with an enrolment of five students. The co-educational institution was established by the Disciples of Christ in Jamaica, presently the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. In 1955 the school changed its name to Oberlin High in honour of a German-American educator, John Fredic Oberlin. Mr. Oberlin was the Pastor of a church in the USA with a College in Ohio called Oberlin College. In 1957, the school became a grant-aided high school following the receipt of financial aid from the government of Jamaica. Since then, successsive administrators have improved the services offered to students; each time, championing the belief that every child has a niche in life. The present cadre of teaching professionals and support staff assist the over 1,800 students to realise their full potential. The current administration continues to ingnite students' interests in all school activities while fostering sound Christian discipline on which every fabric of the school is built.

Known internationally and loved locally, Oberlin High School Choir is recognized as one of the vanguard school vocal ensemble in Jamaica. With its stylistic grace and an adventurous spirit, Oberlin’s choir has been enriching and transforming people’s lives through music for many years. The Choir performs in many styles and genres, always aiming to communicate, engage, and entertain.

The ensemble has been honored with many achievements at the national and international levels, including 1st place in the Scotia Bank International Original song Competition for Amateur Choirs as well as numerous Medals and awards at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission JCDC National Music Festival.

Oberlin also prides itself on its musical ambassadorship as three (3) times champions of the TVJ’s All Together Sing Competition with stellar performances at major music festivals and concert venues in Jamaica and the United States of America.

The Choir continues to produce many stellar performances with star captivating lead singers, in styles ranging from pop and folksong arrangements to modern works. The ensemble under its new director Mr. Dwight Sanderson, embarked on a Christmas musical in 2013 which was a huge success. In May of 2014 the choir introduced its first concert season at the Richmond Nelson Auditorium which from all indication was well received. This success is commendable and motivating for this young ensemble.

Presently the Choir is working assiduous to complete its first album. Believing in the transformative power of young voices, the choir continues to help aspiring singers find their changed voices, develop their confidence, and nurture their interest and commitment to music and culture.

Agriculture may be defined as the production, processing, marketing and distribution of crops and livestock products to satisfy the many and growing needs of man.Agriculture is very important as it the backbone to a socially and politically stable nation. Agriculture is the largest sector that provides food and employment to many people. It also appraises a country's development standards and contributed to the GDP of a country.

Agriculture, for decades, had been associated with the production of basic food crops. But as the process of economic development accelerated, many other occupations are now aligned to the sector and are recognized as a part of agriculture.

Today, agriculture involves new approaches through improve technology, marketing, processing and distribution of agricultural products, all accepted as a part of modern agriculture. At present, agriculture is introduced to the students from grade seven through to grade eleven at Oberlin High School. It is of paramount importance that the students be introduced to the subject as early as possible to facilitate scaffolding. This will assist them greatly as they transition into the CSEC programme which requires a lot more practical engagements.

In addition the institution is based in an area that is involved in farming on many levels; therefore the study of agriculture will also help the students to form a link between the farmers in the community and the school. The program is also equipping individuals to be self sustainable entrepreneurs where they are able to contribute to community building and in extension the country’s economy. After all a country that is able to secure food for its people is well on its way to sustainable financial stability.

The Sports department has been involved in a number of different sporting activities over the years. Some of these Inter-Schools competition include football, netball, track and field and badminton.

We have been involved in Manning Cup; Under 16 and Under 14 football and cricket competition; also, the Under 19, Under 16 and Under 14 netball competition. We have recently started competing in the Badminton School’s League.

We have been mostly dominant in the area of track and field which has resulted in us placing in the top three positions at Eastern Championship for the past twenty-five years and placing in the top twenty at the Boys/Girls Championship.

There are six houses and the Inter house activities include: netball, football, cross-country and track and field events.
